The Fagaras Mountains, named by Emmanuel de Martonne in 1907 „The Transylvanian Alps” are undoubtedly the most impressive mountains in Romania. They are in fact „the loftiest, the highest, the iciest, the most alpine, and less horizontal” as one of the greatest geologists, Marcian Bleahu, stated.
Duration: 8 nights/9 days optimal time July-October
Difficulty: medium-high (due to longer routes but does not raise technical issues) Tourists will be rewarded with great views and amazing photographs! However tourists participants must have a good physical condition and have minimal experience on the mountains.

THE ITINERARY of “On the roof of Romania – Fagarasi Mountains” tour:
Day 1- Bucharest
From the moment you land at the Henri Coanda airport in Bucharest, you will be welcomed by our professional guide who will take you to your first stop, a 4* hotel in the heart of the city. Take a panoramic city tour of Bucharest and discover the city’s eclectic mixture of architecture: the Revolution Square, Victory Avenue, the Romanian Atheneum, the University Square and the Arch of Triumph. This first evening will be enriched by a traditional dinner with entertainment show in one of the famous Bucharest restaurants.
Day 2 Bucharest-Sinaia-Bran -Brasov (190 km)
After a rich breakfast we leave Bucharest heading north to the beautiful city of Brasov. First stop in Sinaia – one of Romania’s most important mountain resorts. Take a guided tour of the Peles Castle, the royal residence of King Charles I of Romania. The attraction of the afternoon is Bran Castle, also known as Dracula Castle. Enjoy cheese tasting in Bran. The locals are famous for the various types of cheese from the smoked one to the cheese in wood bark. We head up to Brasov, the Crown city for a first night in this exciting city. Traditional Romanian dinner in the center of the city. Accommodation in a 3* hotel in Brasov.
Day 3 Fagaras Mountains- Negoiu Chalet
Transfer from Brasov to the base of Fagaras Mountain. Trekking till “Negoiu”chalet (2 hours). Dinner and accommodation at “Negoiu”chalet.(shower and toilets on the hall).
Day 4 Caltun Lake
Breakfast. “Caltun”Lake thru „Strunga Ciobanului” (6-7hours). Overnight in tent.
Day 5 Negoiu Summit and Balea Lake
Climb thru „Strunga Dracului” on “Negoiu” Summit (2.535m), placed in the wildest part of Fagaras Mountains. Then descend by „Strunga Doamnei” and follow the ridge till “ Balea Lake”chalet (5-6hours). Dinner and accommodation at “Balea Lake” or “Paltinu” chalet.
Day 6 Capra Lake and Podragu Chalet
Breakfast. “Balea Lake”/ Capra Lake/ Ogres Window/ At 3 steps from death/ “Podu’ Giurgiului” Lake/ “Podragu” Chalet (6~7hours). Dinner and accommodation at “Podragu” Chalet.
Day 7 Moldoveanu Summit and Valea Sambetei chalet
Breakfast. “Podragu” Chalet / Under “Ucea Mare” Summit/ “Orzanele” Saddle/ “ Vistea Mare” Summit (2.527m)/ “Moldoveanu” Summit (2544m) –the highest in the country (3-4 hours). Continue the track on the ridge and descending at “Valea Sambetei” chalet (4-6 hours)/. Dinner and accommodation .
Day 8 Brancoveanu Monastery-Bucharest
Breakfast/ descending at “Brancoveanu” Monastery (2 hours). Transfer to Bucharest. Farewell dinner and accommodation in a 4* hotel in the city center.
Day 9 Bucharest-departure
This morning you will have the chance to visit the Palace of the Parliament, one of the most extravagant and expensive building projects in the history of mankind and considered the second largest building in the world. Transfer to the International Airport Otopeni for the flight home.
